Botox-type Injectables

WHAT IS A BOTOX-TYPE INJECTABLE?

Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable neurotoxin, better known under brand names such as Botox Cosmetic®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, and Daxxify®. Neurotoxin treatments are the most popular single cosmetic procedure in the U.S. and are mainly used to smooth dynamic wrinkles, or those wrinkles that form as a result of facial movements like frowning, squinting, smiling, and other expressions we tend to make day after day. Treatment works by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them to relax. As a result, your expressions soften and the dynamic wrinkles are greatly reduced.

The injection can treat crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines, but it’s also used in other areas, including the lips, nose, lower face, neck, and even downturned smiles. The toxin treats wrinkles created by repeated muscle movement (think: frown lines and furrowing your brow).

It can also delay the formation of new lines, which is a plus if you’re in your mid-20s to early 30s and are concerned about wrinkles developing later.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN

BOTOX-LIKE INJECTABLES AND FILLERS??

A lot of people think injectable botulinum toxins, like Botox and Xeomin, are fillers, but they work in an entirely different way. While fillers add volume, neurotoxins like Botox relax muscles to smooth lines and wrinkles (and prevent more from forming). They’re often paired with fillers, for optimal results.

WHAT IS A BOTOX LIP FLIP?

The lip flip, a growing lip augmentation trend, uses a micro-dose of Botox, Jeuveau or Xeomin (about 2 units on either side) to relax the muscles in the upper lip. This technique flips the upper lip out just enough to make it appear slightly fuller and more youthful.

Natural-looking results appear within five to ten days and can last up to three months.

Lip flip won’t create the same kind of volume as injectable lip fillers but it’s a popular option for people seeking a more subtle improvement.
